Catherine O'Brien's artwork grows out of memory, texture, and lived experience. She began experimenting with mark-making at the age of four to five years old a Q tip and cigarette ashes. A preschool teacher recognized her early talent and kept a drawing she made of her German Shepherd for decades. Years later the teacher returned to the drawing to Catherine's mother, who gave it to her - A surprising reminder of the detail and care she had put into her work even as a young child.

Growing up in a modest circumstances, catherine nurtured her creative voice through practice, observation, and determined perseverance. As a woman entering a career in commercial graphics, she often had to assert herself to have her work seen and respected. Her pieces transform fragments of memory into visual stories that capture both intimate and universal moments, reflecting resilience emotion, and layers of human experience. Catherine's process often let's texture and spontaneity guide a composition, resulting in works that feel tactile layered and alive.
